Hüsler

Prof. Dr. René Hüsler is the founding director of the new School of Computer Science and
Information Technology at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, which opened 2016
in Rotkreuz/ZG. The father of two children and native born Swiss earned his PhD at the Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology (ETHZ) in the field of electrical engineering after he finished an
apprenticeship in mechanics, a diploma in computer engineering from the University of Applied
Science in Brugg/Windisch and a diploma in computer science from the ETH Zurich.
During his studies and after his PhD, Mr. Hüsler worked for almost 20 years in several companies as
engineer, project leader as well as department and business unit head before he joined the Lucerne
School of Engineering&Architecture in 2002. He started developing the research activities in
computer engineering and tripled the turnover in 3 years. After 5 years as vice-principal and head of
research with outstanding development rates and research results he was appointed as director in
2010. In 2014 he was elected as the founding director of the newly created School of Computer
Science and Information Technology. Mr. Hüsler has a strong background and experience in
information security, blockchain and DLT, parallel and distributed computing as well as general
management topics.
Among other things, he is a member of the board of Swiss Blockchain Federation and ICTwitzerland
that just joined with digitalswitzerland.
